Trendy Drugs

On September 28, 2006, the Monroe County Substance Abuse Coalition presented a Trendy Drugs Paraphernalia hosted by Michigan State Police and Retired DPD Alcohol/Drug Recognition Expert Ken Krygel who explained to attendee an overview of the underground drug culture.

Alcohol/Drug Recognition Expert Ken Krygel (front, center) gave over 100 school officials, area social workers, and drug treatment professionals from Monroe County a first hand look at items that drug abusers use to get high or conceal their addiction. These pictures are from the day-time presentation. An evening session was also given for parents and family members.

Mr. Krygel brought tables full of paraphernalia to show to attendees. Many of the items showcased are everyday house hold products that are sold over the counter and can be found in most homes in Monroe.

Drug addicts are very inventive. They will use everyday objects in ways that they were never meant to be used to get high. Addicts will ingest large quantities of over-the-counter medication or household cleaners to acheive a high. They do not care about the harm they are doing to their bodies. Their only concern is to get high.

The presentation included a video that showed how easy it is to conceal weapons on your person and how these weapons are used.

During the break, attendees were invited to investigate the items that Ken has collected from drug busts, area shops, and ordered over the internet.

Ken took time to personally speak with attendees about their concerns and answered their questions.
